Please join me opening night, Thursday March 2nd from 5-8pm for the exhibition reception for 8 Woman Artists March On, celebrating Women’s History Month at George Billis Gallery’s new location in Fairfield CT. Curated by Amy Zoller.
The exhibition will be on display at the George Billis Gallery, 1700 Main Street in Fairfield, CT from March 3rd through April 17th 2023.
I will be exhibiting from my latest series “Photos from the Green Box”. In this series I was inspired by vintage (1950s-1960s) color photography I found on various instagram accounts . During this time period of the 50’s/60’s color photography was finally accessible to non professional photographers and captured vibrant and muted colors of the times trends. They are truly a journal of that time passed. There is a lightness about many of these photos, an innocence, a playfulness, a simpleness that I feel has been lost in some parts of our current society. I have gone through them for months and found the ones I have been most drawn to paint. In this figurative series I do not go into great detail of the figures, rather a painterly looseness and a less obvious idea of what they look like, rather more for the viewer to be drawn into the shapes and colors I found intriguing. In the end, it is a time travel of sorts, for us to travel there but for them to also come and meet us in the design of our modern world.
